Minstrel Shows at Liberty Hall
The El Paso Downtown Lions Club, for many years, use to bring to El Paso its annual Minstrel Show to the stage at Liberty Hall. I remember the director, George Elias of the John B. Rogers Production Company of Fostoria, Ohio. He would travel all over the country putting on Minstrel Show productions. One year I remember him saying that there wasn't a city anywhere in the country that had any more talent than El Paso. He would audition those that wanted to be in the show and always put an entertaining and fun show together for the audience to watch. The end-men always had funny jokes. There were names like, Bill "Jubilation T" Bridler, Pat "Rasputin" Rand, Doyle "Specimen" Kern and Jim "Possum-Trot" Kaster. There were other names but these are the ones that come to mind.
